Living Eggs

This week has been very exciting at The Oldham Academy North. On Monday 10th October we had 24 embryo eggs delivered just days before they were due to hatch. The eggs were kept safe and warm in two incubators specifically designed with a viewing window. While we were waiting the Y7 students did lots of research on their iPods about the life cycle of a chicken, what happens inside the egg and tips on how to care for them when they arrive.
Then when we arrived at the academy on Wednesday, three beautiful chicks had arrived! Throughout the day we watched in amazement as more and more chicks hatched. Every Y7 student was then given the opportunity to choose a name for the new arrivals. We now have 20 healthy chicks with names so far including Lolo, Chicky Gervais, Chick Jagger, Nugget and the list goes on...
