At The Oldham Academy North, we believe that encouraging and enabling children to read for pleasure can change their lives. As part of our ongoing drive to promote literacy and raise standards of reading, this term every pupil will be taking part in the Academy’s new reading initiative:

‘Reading Together: One Academy, One Book’.
On 'Roald Dahl Day' (13th September) every family will receive a copy of the author's well loved classic: ‘James and the Giant Peach,’ which we encourage parents and carers to read at home together with their children. This will be their own copy of the book to keep permanently, as a gift from the Academy.
To allow families to get the most out of this reading experience, we are providing an overview of the weekly chapter numbers and themes. Every family will also receive chapter by chapter questions and a glossary to guide their reading.
There will be a wide variety of activities and opportunties for pupils to explore the themes of the book throughout the term in the Academy, including reading clubs, lunctime 'Jackanory', webcasts, art competitions and many, many more.
