Sports Day

The first Oldham Academy North Sports Day was held at the City of Manchester Athletics Stadium with the whole school out in force to participate and support in the event. With fingers crossed for good weather, the early morning start for the stadium began with everyone looking forward to the day to come.

The sports day was organised with military precision and celebrated in style, with the pupils sporting banners, made in art and during form time. As well as staff leading the way in chants, encouragement and some interesting headbands and artistic face paints.

The activities were a combination of traditional competitions such as 100m, long jump and shot put and more modern events, such as 4X50m flat relay, howler throw and hoop throw. By far the most popular activities were the tug of war and 4X100m relays participated in fiercely by both staff and students. Cheers and encouragement from the crowd in these events nearly brought the stadium down and definitely boosted the energy levels and strength of the competitors.

The House competition was a very close competition with the lead changing on numerous occasions throughout the day, and all houses coming close to titles. The overall competition was won by Strinedale House, closely followed by Medlock 4points behind. A commendable effort from Dovestones House saw them take the third position and Tandle House the 4th position.
