Manchester Camerata

The brass players of the Manchester Camerata Orchestra visited The Oldham Academy North on Wednesday, 30th March. All the students in Year 7 who are learning a brass instrument attended this event together with Year 9 students and Westwood Primary Year 6 students.

We were treated to a magnificent selection of exciting pieces of music for brass – trumpet, french horn, trombone and tuba. An explanation of exactly how brass instruments work was given but by far the most exciting part came when Sami Rouf from Year 7 was allowed to be the conductor! He moved his arms up and down in time with the beat and was very successful in keeping the orchestra together. He is clearly a fine young musician in the making and definitely one to watch out for in the future.

Well done Sami and well done Manchester Camerata!
