KS3 Curriculum
All students in years 7, 8 and 9 study Textiles for one rotation per academic year.
In Year 7, students learn how to use a sewing machine and also develop their ability to apply decoration to fabric including appliqué, hand embroidery and other fabric embellishments. These skills are applied to a design and make project following a ‘Literacy and Numeracy’ theme.
In Years 8 and 9 students continue to develop their textile skills by completing design and make projects that challenges and supports their learning. Skills used include CAD, the use of additional textile components; including the use of electrical components and use of the computerised sewing machine.
KS4 Curriculum
In Year 10 and 11 students follow the AQA GCSE Textiles Specification. Students continue to develop their designing and making skills through a range of products from soft furnishings to garment making following a range of design themes.
For their GCSE assessment students produce an individual portfolio of coursework and a related high quality product.
