Subjects within the Faculty
 
Business, ICT and Technology
 
The BTEC First Level 2 Extended Certificate (2GCSE equivalence) is designed to introduce learners to working in the sector or prepare them for further study. Areas of specialism can include business enterprise and online business.
 
Pupils develop qualities and skills which are essential in the business world, for example, working as a member of a team; using initiative, writing reports. Pupils will have the opportunity to speak to business people through visitors to the school and visits to outside events.

Aims and purposes of ICT
 
ICT offers opportunities for pupils to:
 
  • Prepare themselves for participation in a rapidly changing world where activities are 
    increasingly transformed by access to ICT;
     
  • Develop initiative and independent learning skills;
     
  • Gain rapid access to ideas and experiences from a wide range of people, communities and cultures.
     
  • Finding things out;
     
  • Developing ideas and making things happen;
     
  • Exchanging and sharing information;
     
  • Reviewing, modifying and evaluating work as it progresses
 
Years 8 and 9
 
Year groups 8 and 9 are taught 1 hour a week in dedicated ICT suites. Students are expected to be independent users of ICT and can access the facilities during lunchtimes and after the academy day.
 
Starting in year 8 pupils have the opportunity to gain a qualification in ICT ; the OCR Nationals in ICT; First Award. This qualification allows students to demonstrate the skills, knowledge and understanding of ICT acquired during yr 8 and yr 9. If students complete the units required at the end of yr 9 they are then awarded the qualification.
 
Years 10 and 11
 
Pupils who choose ICT as an option will work towards the OCR Nationals in ICT; National Award with a 2GCSE equivalence. During their 2 year study students could choose to cover Animation, Creating Multimedia Presentations , Creating Interactive Graphics, Designing a Database or Designing a Website.
