The aim of Humanities Faculty at The Oldham Academy North is to provide compelling learning experiences for every pupil. We mean to deliver outstanding teaching and learning so that all our pupils are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to be add value to their community, to be lifelong learners and to achieve their full potential.
We aim to develop informed, responsible and active citizens who are equipped to think critically, and who have the confidence and conviction to succeed in every sphere of their lives and to be successful in an ever changing world.
At Key Stage 3 we deliver an exciting Integrated Humanities programme of study. These units are designed to offer stimulating, fun and rewarding learning that fully embed the skills pupils need at GCSE. This combination of all the humanities subjects of History, Geography, Religious Study and Citizenship allows pupils to make developmental journeys through areas of study and to understand the perspectives that each of our four subject areas offer.
An example of this is the unit we call ‘Crime Through Time’. In this unit of study pupils gain understanding of;
• how attitudes to crime and punishment have changed over time (History),
• the way justice is administered today and how laws are changed (Citizenship),
• the moral and ethical aspects of crime and punishment (Religious Studies),
• and the use of maps and population statistics to monitor crime in society (Geography).
Through the delivery of these units, we are focused on creative, experiential and enjoyable learning experience that ensue each pupil develops the skills and knowledge to succeed at GCSE. We are therefore every focused to ensure the progress of every pupil.
