Languages in the community

What’s happening with languages?

The English and MFL Faculty at The Oldham Academy North has strong links with its local primary schools.  Currently MFL specialists from The Oldham Academy North regularly visit our local primary schools, offering support with language lessons, the language curriculum and facilitating language trips. Next year, we want to continue this support and develop our links further.

Here’s what’s happening at the moment with primary MFL!

Languages Fun at the CLC

On Friday 27th May Ms Manning will be taking a group from Burnley Brow Primary School to the City Learning Centre in Chadderton for Languages Week. Pupils will be able to choose from 5 different exciting activities in order to improve their Spanish speaking and writing skills. Throughout the afternoon, they will use new and dynamic ICT software to create a facebook page, a film, a comic strip or an animated story board. They will also take part in the Languages iPhone Treasure Hunt! Ms Manning hopes to involve many other groups from local primary schools and from The Oldham Academy North in these kinds of projects in the future.

Spanish Lessons at Freehold Primary School

Ms Manning has been visiting Freehold Primary School on Wednesday mornings to be involved with and teach Spanish lessons.  Ms Manning was surprised at just how much Spanish the pupils at Freehold already know as they have been learning greetings and numbers with their classroom teacher.  They now have the opportunity to take part in the same activities, games, speaking and writing work that the pupils at The Oldham Academy North currently experience in their language lessons!
