Modern Foreign Languages

KS3 Curriculum

The MFL Department has an inclusive and challenging curriculum which seeks to nurture students. The Department aims to play a big part in making the students global citizens and we have the believe that languages are a tool to open the world to our students. With a strong and clearly defined ethos and high expectations, our aim is to enable all learners to thrive, excel and enjoy their education. Taught by a dedicated team of MFL specialists, the majority of whom are native speakers, the curriculum is reviewed regularly to ensure quality assurance. All four language skills are addressed equally and cross curriculum opportunities such as opportunities to contribute to ICT skills as well as Literacy are ample. Year 9 students are part of a fast track GCSE programme.

KS4 Curriculum

Key Stage 4 students predominantly study French at GCSE with the opportunity to study Arabic as an option. Students are assessed through a combination of external examinations and Controlled Assessments by either AQA (French) or EDEXCEL (Arabic). Students are facilitated to reach their full potential by the fact that staff are native speakers and by made to measure schemes of work.
